A woman who became aggressive towards gardaí while drunk on a Dublin city centre street has avoided a criminal record after the court applied the Probation of Offenders Act. Affia Phelan, 26, a retail manager of Lissadel Road, Drimnagh, pleaded guilty at Dublin District Court to public intoxication and threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour.
The court heard that Phelan became aggressive and tried to get away from gardaí when they stopped her on Dame Street on June 18.
She had no previous convictions.
Defence solicitor Holly Laher said Phelan had only a limited memory of the incident but did not want to waste the court's time.
Ms Laher said her client was very remorseful for her actions, which she accepted were a mistake, and that she thanked gardaí for their assistance on the night.
Counsel added that the incident had been very sobering for Phelan in more ways than one.
Judge William Aylmer noted that the accused had pleaded guilty at the first opportunity and appeared to have acted in a way that was out of character.
He applied the Probation of Offenders Act, leaving Phelan without a criminal conviction.
