Two brothers accused of punching and kicking a young man outside a shopping centre in Balbriggan in full view of shoppers have been sent forward for trial.
Twins Mark Ibrahim, 21, and Michael Ibrahim, 21, appeared on bail before Balbriggan District Court, where they were served with the book of evidence.
The pair, both with an address at Taylor Hill Court in Balbriggan, are charged with seriously assaulting a man at Castlemill Shopping Centre on November 4, 2023.
A state solicitor told the court that the book of evidence was ready and had been served. The two accused were sent forward to the next sittings of Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
Judge Shalom Binchy gave the men the formal alibi caution and assigned solicitors Fiona D'Arcy and Tony Collier, together with two junior counsel, on free legal aid.
It had previously been heard that the Director of Public Prosecutions had directed summary trial in the District Court, but a judge declined jurisdiction.
In outlining the allegation, Garda Dean O'Donnell previously told the court that the injured party had been standing outside a shop with friends at about 6pm when the two accused approached him and Michael Ibrahim allegedly struck him in the face.
The court heard that the man fell to the ground and was then allegedly kicked a number of times by both Michael and Mark Ibrahim.
Garda O'Donnell further alleged that Michael Ibrahim grabbed the man by the hair, struck him again, and dragged him to his feet by his hair before the two accused allegedly continued the assault.
It was also alleged that the injured party was dragged along the footpath and out of the view of CCTV cameras.
The court previously heard that gardaí knew the injured party, later went to his home, and took photographs of his injuries.
