A young man who admitted possessing cocaine, heroin and cash after gardaí observed suspicious activity has been directed to complete a restorative justice services programme.
Joshua Sherwin, 21, of Moatview Gardens, Coolock, appeared before Blanchardstown District Court, where Judge David McHugh adjourned sentencing to a date in June.
Sherwin admitted possession of cocaine and heroin, as well as having €465 in cash, at Barry Drive in Finglas on March 27, 2024.
Sergeant Conor Mohan told the court that gardaí saw a number of individuals acting suspiciously in what appeared to be a drugs transaction.
The sergeant said Sherwin dropped the drugs and ran into a house. Gardaí followed him inside and he was subsequently arrested.
The court heard that the cocaine had a street value of €484 and the heroin was worth €88. Sherwin also had €465 in cash on him at the time.
It was noted before the court that Sherwin had no previous convictions.
Defence solicitor Carol Slattery said her client had been going through a difficult period at the time of the incident and had been asked to leave the family home by his mother.
The court heard that he is now living with his grandmother, is working, and is making efforts to rebuild his relationships with his family.
Ms Slattery asked the court to be as lenient as possible, saying Sherwin was an apprentice and was now doing very well.
